Soon the fire started to cease down, and one of the men began talking. "You guys aren't freelancers? We're marines, well not any longer really. The director of freelancer is gathering up all marine divisions; if we don't bow down to him we get killed off. Me and the ten guys with me are the only ones in a division of thousands that refused to join him. We may not be much, but we're here to help said the commander."
The marines came out of their cover , their weapons lowered and on safety to signify that they meant no harm. Hearing the word freelancer made Shifty think of his older brother for a moment but soon shook it off. "We're glad to have you. I'm Shifty, that's Calidus. The other guys ARE SLEEPING BUT ONCE THEY WAKE UP I'LL INTRODUCE THEM."

((sleeping, nice))
Calidus returned the launcher to his back as the Marines approached. He made his way over to Shifty and spoke softly, "These men will only serve to slow us down. They would be best for making a stand and we will end up slaughtered if we do that." He turned his gaze to the commander who still stood waiting for a response.

"Yeah, but I don't think leaving some random marines in the woods while we go off to be heroes is going to help stop the freelancers. I'm not exactly sure what to do; it's your call." said Shifty to Calidus.
Meanwhile, the director of freelancer had Scorpio and a few other freelancers (( any of you guys playing freelancers )) at a table. "Your targets are an unknown number of Spartans, along with possibly some former marines who escaped. We're still working on the names of the others, but two known are Calidus and Shifty. Try to get them to change sides, if they say no just kill them."
As the group headed towards the specially-suited pelican Scorpio walked somewhat unneasily, not really looking forward to having to kill his brother. The two had always gotten along well, and before Scorpio was recruited for Freelancer worked really well together.

Calidus paused for a moment as he considered the situation. The marines stood before them ready to give their lives to fight against corruption and had already risked leaving their division. To turn them away now would be a death sentence. He turned toward Shifty and said, "Leaving them here would be wrong. I guess they are coming with us."
Facing the commander of the marines, Calidus announced, "Alright, you men are coming with us. You wouldn't happen to have any sort of vehicles would you?"

The commander looked back and nodded at two of the marines. The two walked back a few feet, and cut on the engines of two warthogs. These were slightly modified, as they didn't have gun turrets but instead held extra troops. There was enough space for all of them, and possibly a few more (( hint hint )). "There's been rumors of a base where all the deserters have been heading to, that's probably our best bet at safety."
"Nice, we'll be ready to move out as soon this guy here wakes up," said Shifty as he lightly kicked a sleeping spartan.
(( At this point I'm too impatient to wait for Shadow lol, if he does come back we'll just say he was with us all the time or w/e ))

He had many names. In the Belizar natives, he was known as Angel. To the Kotaar Wanderers, he was called Trucebreaker. To those Northern Illysal Pirates? He said his name was Severence before he destroyed their engine and left them to die. On the other hand, the Southern Illysal pirates? To them, his name was Lunacy, and he had left them with a cargo full of boxes. He had no idea of their contents or their purpose, but if he had to guess it was likely illegal weapons so the pirates could conquer Mustaz and Kamo.
But he didn't guess. He never guessed. He followed ordered.
For now, he was just called Torrent. He was a Spartan, hardly standing out from the others, as if being a Spartan didn't make you stand out enough already. He was an average fighter, an average pilot, an average hacker, and average strategist. He wielded an assault rifle, a battle rifle, and usually kept a round of plasma grenades. No fancy weapons, nothing to stick out.
But he was special. He was the guy that the government could use to carry out missions that might not be totally legal. In fact, if he ever had guessed, he would have thought they were very, very illegal, but he didn't. He followed the orders of the men in black at the top of the food chain, the very very top. Very few people knew this. In public he was a Spartan. In the secret, though, he would do what others could not. Not due to their skills or powers, but because they weren't trusted.
But this didn't matter at this moment. What mattered was he fighting aliens. He was a Spartan, after all, even if he had another night job.
So slinging his assault rifle on his back, and sliding his BR into an oversized sheath on his thigh, he sauntered over to a couple of his Spartan brothers. Their names, which he double checked in his personal computer, were Shifty and...Calidus? What the hell kind of name is that, he wondered. But whatever. As if Torrent was any better...
((basically i'm setting up a side story for later, but right now i'm just a spartan, no funny business.))

Shifty, who had been leaning against a tree while he waited was glad to see they could finally leave this spot. "Alright, our last guy is up. Introductions can wait, we can't stay much longer in one spot without risking being caught." (( Slightly gonna god mode everyone here))
A few moments later the spartans and marines were riding in warthogs through the countryside. Shifty was enjoying the ride, and was looking forward to being in a base where he could sleep in an actual bed. "So, where you from?" Shifty asked Torrent, looking to start a conversation.

"I was based in the Pellos galaxy there for a while. But once Pelli 2 got captured, management had me bail out. Obviously, it was a lost cause. What 'bout you?" Torrent wasn't sure if this is what the other Spartan, Shifty, was talking about, or if he was talking deeper, like his home planet. But he knew he didn't want the conversation to get started on his orgins, so he assumed it was the former.

((I would rarely mock the name of someone who has a lot of explosives. Btw))
Before Shifty had a chance to respond Calidus butted in, "Sorry to interrupt the life sharing, but don't you think we should be more focused on the task ahead? This base we are going to sounds more like a death trap, considering the forces arrayed against us. I don't have enough explosives to wipe out the armies of Earth and the freelancers. If anything this seems like a David and Goliath kind of thing, minus the sling."

"It's mainly small freelancer squads taking down other spartans. I doubt a group of like three freelancers would risk trying to enter a base with hundreds of marines and spartans," said Shifty as yawned softly. All of a sudden, the warthogs stopped and the marines jumped out, signaling the spartans to follow them. Under several bushes was a trapdoor with a ladder that lead into an elevator. Once the marines and spartans were all crammed in the elevator, it began going down all on it's own.
"Jesus christ.." said Shifty. Down below were probably thousands of marines and assorted vehicles. The elevator slowed down, and waiting for them were several armed marines. "Good to see you guys. We've gotten your vehicles down here already, so don't worry about them. You marines come with us, and spartans jus look for an empty room of bunks, I'd give you a tour and all but we're a little busy.
As all this was going on, Scorpio and two other freelancers appeared out of the shubbery. "Alright, we're just gonna pose as Spartans who were behind the other guys making sure no one followed us. Right now we're just here for information, don't shoot anyone."
